From the moment they appear on screen you immediately judge each character both on their looks and personality, these two attributes makes up a stereotypical character. We have "The Criminal" (John bender), "The Athlete" (Andrew Clark), "The Basket case" (Alison Reynolds) , "The Princess" (Claire Standish) and "The Brain (Brian Johnson). These are all on their own stereotypes and most teenagers are able to relate to at least one of them. At the start of the film, when Mr Vernon leaves the room, each character starts to do stereotypical things that suit their stereotype; the basket-case chews her nails, the brain is attempting to work on the essay, the criminal sings a rock song badly and out of tune, the princess starts complaining, and the athlete is threatening to beat the criminal up.
