The “brain” of the group, Brian is considered a weirdo and he knows it. But that doesn’t stop him from being an honest and caring person, who would accept any one of the other 'Breakfast Club' members to be seen with him.
He is seen as a dork because of his intelligence but also represents innocence through his guilt in being a virgin. Brian is loved character by the audience who in the end loves his essay, written in perfect words.
He speaks with logic and corrects the teacher and other students mistakes. This, in all, becomes quite amusing for the audience, who come to see Brian as an innocent and typical nerd.

As the movie progresses we soon find out that Brian isn’t the ‘perfect pupil’ he’s perceived as. With pressure from his parents to do well in school, Brian finds it hard to accept his first ever ‘F’ received on a project and is caught with a gun from an obviously unsuccessful suicidal attempt.
Once Brian reveals his reasons for being given detention to the group, our perception of him changes and we see that he has just as many problems being a good student. The group find the news devastating that Brian would go to such extents, but laugh it off when it's mention the gun was a flare gun. Brian is an important character as he adds another dimension of funny to the group through his innocence and smart-ass comments. |
