In the movie we learn that each member of The Breakfast Club believed that their own problems were worst than anyone else's and that no one else is going through the same thing, but actually they all have the same problems, hating their parents and social peer pressure. When the detention starts they all despised each other, thinking they all had nothing in common.
After revealing these problems to each other in their different ways, each member starts to feels better about themselves because they realise they're all going through similar issues.
Despite their differences, the 5 stereotypes find common ground after a lot of arguing and judging. They only meet once, but it was a time to remember. To be mindful of the fact that everybody has problems.

John Bender was always in detention. At school he would act all tough, aggressive and disrespectful to others, to hide the fact that he was breaking inside from the problems he had at home.
We and the other Breakfast Club members find out that his parents were physically and verbally abusing him enabling us to see why he puts on his hostile act. When Bender starts to imitate how Brian's home life is all perfect and flawless, Andrew asks him how his home-life is, and then Bender then proceeds to imitate how his life goes at home. It is horrible, loud, abusive and full of hatred and anger, which isn't good for a child to grow up in, but Bender has grown up in this type of house, which has made him who he is. |

Andrew Clark was sent to detention for taping someones butt cheeks together. he did this because of the peer pressure he gets from his friends and his dad, who doesn't care about anything he wants in his life he just wants him to win every wrestling match he is in.
Andrew hates his father, because of the pressure he puts on him and the influences he poses when becoming who he is. Andrew opened up to the group his problems once he realised everyone of them were in similar situations and what he did was truly wrong. |

Brian Johnson's home life is not what Bender imitates it to be. Brian doesn't have perfect life, its more the opposite actually, as he is troubled with his parents wanting him to do well in school.
Brian feels that if he fails to do well he will not only hates himself for doing bad but will get into trouble with his parents. This in all makes him feel even worse about himself, because it means there not pleased with him and he doesn't want to disappoint them. He gets very emotional when he doesn't get what he wants to achieve and so he tried to kill himself when he got his first ever 'F' in a subject. Brian opened up to the group his problems because he too needed to let out his issues, and felt more comfortable saying them once he realised everyone of them were in similar situations and suffering. |

Claire Standish's first time in detention, her parents are divorced and she is often used as a weapon by each of them to get back at the other.
The way she is treated at home effects her thoughts and feelings about her self-worth which leads to her seeking approval from others. In the movie, Brian describes her behavior as conceited because she is a “popular” and looks down on those “under” her on the social grading. Claire suffers from societal expectations but keeps it bottled up inside. She soon explodes when the group's conversations become too personal, exposing how she really feels about her friends and the pressures they put on her. |

Alison Reynolds goes to detention because her home life is unsatisfactory to her. Her family ignores her and treats her although she's not even there. The way she dresses and acts towards everything and being so quiet either means she wants attention or theres something wrong in her life.
We find out that her life is unsatisfactory because she turns her bag inside out and pours the contents onto the couch in front of Brian and Andrew. She tells them she never knows when she will have to jam (run away). First Andrew thinks she's just trying to get attention, but soon finds out really her life is horrid and its like she's invisible to everyone, mostly her parents. |
